Digger's AD&D - Page 8 Empty Waterdeep - 1 & 2

Post by Renny 29th February 2012, 07:48

Drak, Rogar, Armitage, Tramathar
Drak returns from the safe house, to find a dead drow on the floor.
The major witness has gone, the group discuss what we should do.
Drak decides to eat some roasted drow arm, we dispose of the body of the drow. We decide to move on, ignoring the treasure cache of the Drow. We decide to go to Waterdeep and resolve the sewer issues…
We buy potions and food. There is a caravan let the day before, Tramathar casts mount and we ride after the caravan, hoping to catch it up quickly. We head north across the plains. We catch up with the caravan and travelling with the caravan, which travels about 20 miles a day we should take about 25 days to reach Waterdeep.
We listen to rumours, the drows are rising in the south, no one likes Dwarves and especially half elves. The elfs might be at war against the other elves.
Zirian empire is in turmoil, KalZacath is about 11 and has a chip on his shoulder, Malzavena is regentess, but Kalzacath is making people disappearing as his courtiers are paying him respect and killing people for him. There are tensions down here, but there is law in the southern empire.
We arrive at Waterdeep safely in the Caravan, Waterdeep is HUGE, capital of the southern confederacy, large walled city,
Major problems with people disappearing off the streets and the sewers aren’t as effective as they were.

Waterdeep has a curfew as well, if no good reason for being on the streets, then you will be hung, martial law is virtually in place!
This worked for a bit, but now people are disappearing from their homes.
Dawn arrives and we head into Waterdeep, we get paid off,
There are posters – 20gp a day.
Waterdeep is under martial law of the militia.
Rogar and Tramathar and Armitage and Drak sign up
Local intelligence
The sewer exit is by the sea, and body parts are being washed out onto the beach.
We get a map of level 1. Which isn’t 100% accurate.
We prepare ourselves, Drak eats and a place to relax, the local healer will give a CLW every night to help heal.

We enter the sewers, the scent is of shit, lots of it.
Bones are clogging up and are picked clean, possibly by an acid or some kind of dissolving option, not by rats but something has picked them perfectly and smoothly clean.
Bones have been there 3-6 months,
We lift up the lever, and move forward into the sewer complex…
We look around as we open a portcullis and Rogar and Tramathar see something moving through the shit, there are silver globules hanging from the ceiling, probably fist sized.
Armitage and Drak hit it, Armitage with a halberd and Drak with a dagger, Tramathar hits it solidly, it is a solid creature, snake like.
It rears up behind, it hits DRak from behind doing damage and potentially poisoning him, it is a Maw at the end of a snake! Large black tube with teeth, a giant leech. Rogar then strikes the leech as well.
Drak strikes it twice and it floats to the surface as its writhes about nearly dead.
Tramathar finishes it off,
There are lots of globules, they are acid balls hanging from the ceiling, possibly from the leech…
Tramathar and Drak’s weapon is damaged…
-------------------
Rogar and Drak plan to collect acid in glass jars, beyond the gate there are more of them, 17gp per jar of (4 globules in each), each jar costs one copper piece. Drak also buys a spare halberd and a glass bladed dagger that can easily cut the globes free. Brother Armitage returns from his prayers slurping some kind of gruel.
Brother Armitage buys a bag of salt, though Drak isn’t quite sure what it will be used for.
We step back into the leech pool, its about 2 feet deep today, a calmish pool. Drak starts to collect the acid globules in each jar. Brother Armitage reduces the temperature of the room.
Drak leaves the four full jars worth 68gp and leaves them nearer the entrance, with two empty jars left.
In the corner of the room there is a ratchet that winds the door up, on either side. Rogar starts to open the door using the ratchet. The ratchet was stiff opening it as if it hadn’t been used for a while.

As the gate rises, a number of items slowly float past, a stench of cloth, half a dead dog is attached to the spikes and its skull plops into the water. The maggots continue to drip from the gate, Rogar hesitates to lead us through worried about the cascading waterfall of maggots. A dead cat floats past, its stomach bloated from gases. Drak wades past Rogar sploshing the contents of the sewer over the lip of his boots.
The passageway goes 20 feet and then turns east. Drak collects the globules as they go, and returns to near the entrance carefully laying them down on the stone. We then take a turning off the main corridor and follow the corridor. We finally arrive at a room. Drak steps into the room and something swirls past him, he slashes at it and misses it. He steps back quickly into the corridor to avoid the globules. Drak stabs it with his dagger, it rears and misses. At the far end of the room is another portcullis doorway. Two more appear at the far end of the room, and will join in the combat. Drak slashes wildly, concerned at the imminent arrival of more leeches. Meanwhile Rogar starts casting and Brother Armitage contemplates and prays. Drak slices the the leech again but it is still there. The level reduces by about two inches as Rogar completes his spell, but it makes no difference to the Leeches. The leech misses again.
Three more leeches arrive in the combat against Drak. The Priests switch spells, Rogar starts chanting in competition and then hits a leech twice. One Leech hits Drak and the acid burns him badly, but strikes one leech twice. Unfortunately it was a fresh one. Drak misses the elusive leeches again, and the leeches all miss him. Suddenly the leeches glow in the dark from Brother Armitage.
The leeches strike swiftly this time, one strikes Drak, and wounds another fresh one.
Drak strikes a wounded one, but it survives. The leeches all miss. Brother Armitage cures Drak a couple of times and Drak strikes twice against a single leech again, but fails to kill one. Another leech bites Drak and the combat continues. Drak strikes two blows and kills two leeches in two mighty blows. Two leeches are left, Rogar’s chanting deteriorates as one leech sneaks through but is pierced by a dagger, another is wounded by the combat continues. Another leech is killed, and the last wounded, with a single leech left. It slithers under Drak and although it’s hit by him and Brother Armitage continues to hit Rogar, nibbling him. Drak pierces the final leech.
Four leeches are killed, there is a grill in the South East part of the room, and the passage is again five feet wide. To the north the tunnel dries out, it shoals up quickly another twenty feet and eventually goes into another square shaped room. Lots of bric-a-brac on the floor, Bones, cloth and wood dragged into the centre of the room has collected a pile that is three feet tall and about six feet diameter. On closer inspection there appears to be thin threads emanating from the ceiling and arriving at the central nest. It appears to be a trap of some description. Brother Armitage throws a bottle of Greek fire at a nest, a Carrion crawler charges out at the party. The Crawler attacks Brother Armitage, but misses.
Rogar produces fire against the giant spider that lurks on the far side of the room, whist Brother Armitage and Drak strikes the Carrion crawler. Drak strikes the Carrion crawler a mighty blow and Brother Armitage strikes it as well, the Carrion crawler is barely alive but is able to strike back. The spider spews forth web strands at Rogar, who dodges easily.
Rogar’s Flame leaps forth from his hands strikes the spider damages it slightly, Brother Armitage strikes and kills the Carrion crawler, “One for the brotherhood”
Drak spots another larger creature within the nest, Brother Armitage lights another Greek fire ready to throw at the creature or the spider whichever attacks first. The mound hisses the tentacle with possibly an eye, we feel uneasy and Drak decides to leave the room. Rogar throws the Greek fire across the room, the creature decides to attack Brother Armitage, the creature was odd, as it had a a tentacle that causes fear .
We run out, closing the last grille behind us, collecting the five jars of acid.

Digger's AD&D - Page 8 Empty Re: Digger's AD&D

Post by Raedil 2nd May 2012, 06:48

Tramathar steps back from combat and Drak steps forward into combat. The small spiders are still attacking us as well as the big arachnid. Poison dripping from its fangs as it leers with its multifaceted eyes in an evil way.
Rogar strikes the big beast twice doing significant damage. The small spider miss all of us, but the giant spider bites twice against Rogar. Its fangs seek deep into Rogar but the poison gushes mainly onto the floor. Drak hits it a solid blow as well. The spider is wounded but not too badly yet.
Magic missiles flows from Tramathar’s finger as the small spiders try to bite him hitting the massive spider. Against Brother Armitage the small spiders miss, but Drak hits twice as the fangs dig deep into him. His ogrish blood shaking off the poison though.
Drak looks forlornly at the wound and wonders whether he needs to suck out the poison. Rogar hits the giant spider but Brother Armitage misses his little ones. Rogar’s blows finally defeat the bigger spider and it collapses. Brother Armitage is hit by a small spider and shakes off the poison. Drak is hit and succumbs to the paralysation poison. Drak splats a little spider, whilst Tramathar’s magic missiles kills another. There are six spiders left now. We now fight against the little spiders, hoping to finish them quckly. Tramathar burns one whilst Rogar also wounds another again. As does Drak. Four spiders left now
Drak splits one in two its legs still movings as each half walks away from each other. Tramathar destroys another as does Rogar. With a single spider left, Brother Armitage nicks it and Drak splats it completely. Drak and Rogar are healed by the priest. The poison is neutralised. In the room there is something glinting in the corner of the room in the ceiling. Tramathar shines the light at the other spider and it leaps at him and hits him. Tramathar is bitten and Drak strikes it dead with a single blow. In the corner are two cocooned figures. The drop to the floor with a dry rustling sound. They tingle as they hit the ground. A number of silver coins roll free from the bodies. 20 silver pieces on each of them. Beyond another gate the passagewat continues south with a slime trail, a passage off to the west and then continues further sounds turns west and continues with further exists off.
The party heads out to rest. We return to the hotel and recover, recuperating. Rogar heals himself whilst Drak heals naturally.
The next day we head back down, passing the husks we raise the next portcullis and continue down the passageway. The slime trail turns a corner and goes down a sink hole. Further on a room is filled with a mould of some description. It looks like the whole room is covered in the mold. Beyond the mould is a locked portcullis. Elsewhere there is a trapdoor in an alcove going up. It appears unused recently. There is another room covered in a layer or shit of unknown depth, beyond that the corridor continues.
Tramathar inspects the trapdoor and feels that it can be locked, it could be a thieves access into the sewers.

We walk through the shit filled room, it is safe, we walk further down and we reach a crossroads. We come to a large stone door with a coats of arms. Brother Armitage declares that the stone door is the coat of arms of the city. Drak spots that around the edge of the door, there is bitumen soaked cloth around the door and at the bottom of the door there is a small water stain. Brother Armitage declares that leaving and opening the sluice gate might get rid of the mold and other nasties. We return to the crossroads, it is short and leads in a zig zags and then goes to a sink hole, the area is clean and is clearly the drain. Probably don’t want to go down there. We carry on from the crossroads south. It turns west after a while and has some side passages to the north.
We look up the first side passages and goes into a room after 20 feet, the room is huge, in the North east corner there is a large handle, a sluice gate capstan perhaps. Empty cocoons lay on the grounds, dun coloured cocoons. Empty massive pupa cases at least 6 of them. Something skitters into the corner as light. Tramathar fireballs the corner of the room, and something drops from the ceiling and drops to the floor. It is a large beetle, a metallic style carapace, shiny blue eyes and deadly pincers.
Tramathar does an autopsy on the beetle, its carapace is incredibly hard and the pincers incredibly sharp, AC-3. We retreat to the capstan and brother armitage casts Continual light on one of Drak’s Marbles. With continual light we see that there are a number of large beetles, around five feet long, the smaller ones are around one foot long, they constantly coomunicate.by thrumming and clicking. We decide to move towards the corridor, Tramathar casts fireball but only some are killed, in fact not all the small ones are killed. All are singed,

We retreat down the corridor, Tramathar casts a fireball behind us, but some of the retreat ahead of us. He then casts a wall of fire behind us which holds them at bay for a bit longer whilst we attacks the beetles in front of us. There are thirteen beetles ahead of us which seem nasty. Drak misses, Tramathar uses the staff of lightning to clear a path of them, but they take no damage. All three miss Drak as he faces them alone. Next round Drak attacks them twice, but the beetles bite first and wound. Drak strikes one down with two blows.
Tramathar casts a second wall of fire and joins Tramathar, Drak hits one and damages it badly but doesn’t kill it. There are three on each of us. The beetle hit Drak and Tramathar, whilst Drak misses and Tramathar hits and kills one in a single mighty blow!
The beetles continue to attack and Drak hits one for another mighty blow and kills it. Tramathar is hit again, and Drak is hit twice.
As the party can hear the beetles behind them and the party leaps over them and turn around to face them. Drak strikes another one down. Brother Armitage casts a cure on Drak. Tramathar casts another wall of fire across the corridor but it only holds them temporarily up. Whilst the beetles are held up Brother Armitage cures Drak and Tramathar casts another wall of fire beyond them . The pincer beetles finally emerge ahead. Drak kills one and seven remain.
Tramathar summons lots of bats and the beetles eat them ravenously. We retreated.
