Imperial Guard vs Tyranids aka 'Good Eating'
Played this game this morning. Battle report and pics coming soon, but the short version is this.
Mission: Capture and Control
Deployment: Spearhead
The game lasted for 5 rounds and ended with a tactical draw when the last remaining Guard unit was wiped out. The Tyranids were left with 3 units when play ended, but were not close enough to there own or the enemies objective markers to secure victory. Total playing time about 2 hours.
++EDIT++
The game lasted for 5 rounds and ended with a win for the Tyranids when the last remaining Guard unit was wiped out (although no objectives were seized). The Tyranids were left with 3 units when play ended. Total playing time about 2 hours.

Imperial Guard vs Tyranids - Post Match
I believe we got some of the rules wrong today, so I'm posting them here in post match (for no other reason than the better learn the game).
Setup: In capture and control, objective markers should be placed before any units are deployed.
Shooting: I have had a read of the shooting rules and can't find anything that says you must shoot the nearest unit.
Cover Saves: If any part of an intervening figure/unit covers the target they can get a cover save from it.
Template Weapons: Any figure can be removed from unit as a casualty from a template weapon, not just those actually covered by the template.
++EDIT++
Multiple Bursts If a unit is subject to multiple attacks from burst effect weapons, all attacks and hits are resolved before any wounds are allocated and figures removed.
I think I'm right about the above, but let me know if you think I have made a mistake.

500 point challenge : Tyrannids vs Necrons
Mission :Annihilation
Setup : Dawn of war
Game lasted 5 rounds 2 hours
victory went to the tyrannids , after the necron lord and 7 necrons failed their leadership rolls and fled the field ,
Casualties 1 squad termagants , 1 squad hormagaunts
a good game for the first game of the necrons and have now got some tactics for future games .
beware the necrons will return

Looks like the Tyranids are picking manmeat from their teeth with necron toothpicks and with the Tau for deserts........

500 point challenge : Tyrannids vs Necrons
It was a close game. I made a couple of blunders I realise, one at setup and (especially) on the last round. If the game had gone to a 6th round I think that would have been it for the Necs (phase out) for sure but if they hadn't routed, that last assualt phase of the Necron turn would have been critical.
Good game though, we have pics and hopefully a battle report coming soon.
Next the Tau.

Gent's,
As no one has contacted me with regards a game, nor contacted me to confirm acceptance of my Ork Army and noting the number of games already played, it may be better if I dropped out of this compeition until it is sorted!
Disappointed!

I have a 750pt build I'd like to test. Do you fancy a 'friendly' at some point - doesn't matter if minis aren't painted/based etc.
Also I know young H is keen to play a two-a-side team game with his marines. I'd be up4that too.

Necrons Vs the Tau
The Necrons and tau meet upon the field of battle in a Capture and Hold Scenario using the dawn of War deployment .
The game went well (flowed well) . Until Turn 3 when the tau Commanders bodyguard fell under a withering hail of gauss fire . This was followed by turn 4 when the tau commander himself fell .
Ultimately the tau forces were wiped out with the loss to the necrons of 5 necron warriors.
I'd like to say that this was a enjoyable game and we only ran into a problem when dealing with the Gauss auto wound on a 6 against the Tau commanders bodyguard , and a gentlemens agreement on cover saves.
cheers

Imperial guard vs the necron
The Forces of the Imperial Guard meet the Necrons on a Capture the ground / spearhead mission.
game finished on the 7th turn
Victory went to the Imperial Guard who secured 1 objective marker vs the necrons none.
For my part i am made some strategic mistakes , but made for a enjoyable game , well done to simon and the imperial guard.

Tau vs Tyranids - Epic Slugfest
Mission: Capture and Control
Setup: Pitched Battle
This epic conflict went to 7 turns and lasted about 3 hours! In the end The Great Devourer was once again victorious thanks to taking the Tau's objective marker as well as annihilating all of the opposing side. However things didn't go all the 'Nid's way. The first couple of turns were looking very dicey especially as the voracious pursuit of the Tau stealth suits left a couple of units isolated and out of synapse range for two turns. There was also a super epic slugfest between a squad of Crisis suits and genestealers that went on for literally 5 turns - each side gradually whitling down the other, only the timely arrival of my Warriors ended the fight for the 'Nids.
Up to turn 3 the Tau were winning having sat on the their objective the whole game. An assualt with a half strength Termagant brood managed to pull them off that spot and if the game had ended on turn 5 it would have been a draw. However going to turn 6 allowed my Hormagants to get in range of the vacated Tau objective marker and secure the match.
Phew, this was long one. Pics to follow shortly in the gallery.

The only thing I think I got wrong this game (and pointed out quickly enough that it didn't impact play) was the Morale rules for losing an assualt. It isn't the total number of wounds taken by the loser that is subtracted from Leadership, only the difference between the wounds suffered by both sides.
The other screw I made was loading the table down with waaaaaaay too much terrain. Everytime I moved a unit I pretty much had to make a difficult terrain check.
Still spending a lot of time looking up rules, but hopefully that will get better with time.

Have to say i agree with Russ, This was a good game, though a bit of a marathon, As this was only the second game with this formation i was not sure how it was going to play. I had a rough idea of how i was going to play it and it seamed to work up to the point when i was overrun by hordes of free roaming Teeth.... I made a couple of errors, mainly with the strength of my crissis suits in the epic assault battle(thought they were strength 4 instead of 5) which may have brought that struggle to a conclusion a lot quicker, with better results.
Not sure i agree with Russ conclusion about terrain as in this case i think it favored me and produced a much more tactical game, it did deprive me of my long range shooting ability but it also meant that the Nids were not able to sprint across the table at me.
A good Game.
That only leaves the old enemy and the Orks

Re: The Challenge: 500pts - Round 1
No there was definately too much terrain. Most of the table should be clear, but the middle sections was almost totally difficult terrain, at least in regard of the fact that you couldn't move more than 4 or 5 inches without having to roll for it.
Yeah bring on the Orks.
