Scene 1: Unwelcome Reception

The Rescue at Xerxes 4 is the first adventure in the Star Trek Adventures Living Campaign playtest series.

You are all recently graduated from Starfleet Academy and have been ordered to report to Narendra Station to join your assigned ships. To this end, you have been assigned a Type 6 shuttlecraft and are en route to the station.

Martinez "ok this is our first mission, lets do this by the book, i need engineering status, Comms status, and Navigation" punches some buttons. "Are we withi in hailing distance of Narendra Station".

Also brings up mission briefing on screen.

(OOC:) Disposition of the crew is as follows;

Malik Demir has the flight controls (highest skill in piloting so this makes sense to me. Martinez, you're in the Ops position as you have the highest skill in Engineering. Our two security officers are riding shotgun. Does this make sense to everyone?)

(OOC:) Yes

Your shuttle trip to Narendra Station to take your assignment on your commissioned starship has turned out to be more eventful than you anticipated.

As you and your fellow Starfleet graduates chatted about your bright futures, you received a distress signal from Xerxes 4, an uninhabited Class M planet containing no life except for a Federation science team. The distress signal offered no information except that the science team stationed there was in danger.

As you took the shuttle toward the planet’s surface, you were caught in a violent ion storm that knocked out navigation, forcing you to attempt a crash-landing on the planet’s surface.

[OOC: Here we go. Your shuttle is hurtling towards the planet surface. What are you going to do? Tell me what you want to do folks]

Martinez: (OCC: increase power in an attempt to gain control)
"I got this, going to come in fast. Hang on"

Martinez. " re routing power to front shields."

Martinez. "MALIK WAKE UP AND FLY THIS BABY"

Zharath, tightens the straps on his seat and hopes the flyboys know what they are doing....

"going to be a bumpy ride"

Martinez turns and shouts at the security team
"Zharath get on the comms and call the station, we may need a mayday or disstress call"

[Mykilus]

Zhareth grabs the comms console and powering it up....

"This is shuttle wakefield enrute to Nerendra station, requesting assistance we were awnsering a mayday call from Xerxes station, However we have been caught in a ion storm and suffered damage, engines and nav out and we are going down......"

(OOC: OK, so as the Ops officer, Martinez can try and pull in extra power. Kevin, make a roll as follows. Bravery + Engineering for a target of 11, Difficulty is 1. When making a task roll, the individual dice roll results are important, not the total. Each dice which rolls equal to or less than the target number, counts as a success. If you roll equal to or more successes than the difficulty, you succeed. Mike, as you are simply using the comm console, no roll is needed.)

OCC: (Rolled a 3 and a 17)  which is a fail.

[Renny]

(OOC: Except in this case where the difficulty, now edited, should have been a 1. Typo on my end. Success. Because one of your rolls was under the target you achieved a success. If either of the dice you had rolled scored a 1, then that dice would cost for two successes. Not applicable here. You can also choose to improve your odds by spending determination. Each character starts with 3 Determination to spend and can, for example, buy an extra D20 to roll at the cost of one Determination. Next time we make a roll, i'll remind you of this.)

Martinez grapples with the bucking OPS console and frantically reroutes power to the flight controls to try and smooth the shuttle's descent.

Martinez wipes his brow. "I got got this"

[Renny]

The engine tone rises audibly as power is shunted from non - essential systems into the forward shield. Through the canopy, the shields flare as they desperately try to protect the craft from the unthinkable stresses to which they're being subjected.

[kevinrolfe]

"Malik, have you gotten control of shuttle" Martinez says in a calmer voice.

"Zhareth, anything on comms. Are we in hailing range"

[Renny]

(OOC:Yes, we're back into it. Please post actions so we can move forward)

(OOC: Feeling a bit groggy trying to focus - Yes I have this now sorry)

[Renny]

(OOC: No problem, what do you want to try and do?)

[Renny]

(OOC: Let's move things on. Mark, I'm going to assume that Malik will attempt to pilot the shuttle to a safe landing. This will require a Bravery or Control + Conn task, difficulty of 2. Your Bravery is 10 but your Control is higher with 12 so we'll assume you're making a Control + Conn roll for a target of 16. Your Focus of 2 in Helm Operations applies as well. Roll 2d20 and tell me what numbers you roll. If you roll below 16 on either dice, that will count as a success. If you roll a 1 on either dice, that counts as two successes. If any of your dice roll 2 or less, that will give you two successes as this is below your Focus.)

Malik frantically fights the shuttle helm controls. The ship is going down, he realizes, but he may be able to put it down in one piece.
