A clue on mini pricing Empty A clue on mini pricing

Matthew Sprange posted the following a little while ago on the Mongoose Forum -

"As for pricing, we are currently looking at five ships in a squadron set for $29.99, and 16 ships plus a mini-rulebook in a fleet set for $99.99. For the UK, do the usual conversions and add a 'tad' to allow for VAT, though we will try to limit that as much as we can."

So a rough guess would suggest around £20 for the Squadron set, depending on how much VAT they add (the actual amount is £18.59) and £62, let's call it £65 with the VAT added.

That works out to around £4 a mini for the squadron sets and about the same for the Fleet box. You're not saving much by going for the bigger set, except for convenience. Interesting. he also notes that we should be seeing images of painted ships in about three weeks time. I'll have to check and see how that compares to the ADb prices for minis at the moment.

A quick Google search suggests that the Federation Commander squadron boxes upon which these are likely to be based are around the same price, if not a little more expensive i.e. £22 for the 5 ship Squadron Box set, Sixth Fleet, as an example. Interesting.

I think it all depends on the quality of the mini's.

We have all seen some of the shite that came out of Mongoose in the past, so hopefully they won't go down that road again.

If the mini's are good quality, then I don't mind paying a bit extra.

Mike - Hope your paint brushes are ready!! Very Happy

First pictures of painted minis should hit in about three weeks so we'll know then, I guess.

Latest news on pricing from ADB is that the new miniature box sets are actually going to be slightly cheaper than the existing Federation Commander sets.

interesting dilema......do i go with the new stuff or carry on with the 2400 stuff and expand those fleets giveing me a wider choice....to be honest at the moment the only fleet i would start from scratch would be the Kzinti as i dont have any of those

Well, I would wait until you see the new miniatures and see how big the scale difference is. They can talk about it, but until you see it on the table it's pretty irrelevant.

Must admit that i was looking at this site.....

http://www.starfleetgames.com/federation/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=41

and i am starting to see why people why where complaing about the old style mini`s, The lack of detail is quiet bad compared to today`s....and i am beging to swing towards the new stuff because i am looking at these ships and apart from a few i am thinking to myself...i can do better than that..

As long as the Orks are painted first, I think you are going to br a busy boy Mike!

You'll be wearing out the paint brushes!
