Star Trek Films
Does anyone know if the special editions of the first two Star Trek films are available. I'm especially after the Motion Picture with new effects?

There appear to be Director's Editions (with the new visual effects for the Motion Picture) available to order through Amazon via the links below:-
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Trek-Motion-Picture-Directors/dp/B00005UO5T/ref=sr_1_3?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1286732338&sr=1-3
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Trek-Wrath-Khan-Directors/dp/B00005UPO7/ref=sr_1_2?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1286732565&sr=1-2
On a related note, Film4 will be screening a Star Trek weekend on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th October which will include back-to-back screenings of the first 10 movies if you're interested in a viewing-marathon.

They are available through Amazon, but not from Amazon. I have got the impression that they are no longer available on DVD.

Actually I rather won't to own them. Having finally bought all the original series episodes, I really fancy getting the first two films. I'm guessing that they are no longer available new and when the special eds are released again they will be on Blu-ray.Renny wrote:I'll bring my copies to AD&D tonight in case you want to borrow.

Play.com have the directors cut on dvd on sale as follows;
ST_TMP
They also have the Region 1 two disc versions of ST-TMP and TWOK available. Not a problem if your player is multi region.

From the comments this seems to for the original theatrical release rather than the SE version.

And yet the description says...
The U.S.S. Enterprise proudly soars again in this beautifully restored Director's Edition of the original Star Trek movie classic. This director's cut features enhanced visual effects and a new sound mix, supervised by legendary director Robert Wise.

Yeah, I'm pretty confused about the whole thing myself. The same DVD on Amazon has a number of reviews stating that this is just the restored theatrical release (but these seem to be directed at the Blu ray version), so I still don't know for sure. The customer review for this item seems to indicate that fact too.Renny wrote:And yet the description says...
